Trustee Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the Richard Sugden Library Trustees Meeting

April 14 th , 2026

In attendance: Cheryl Donahue, Library Director
Katie Smith, Children’s Library
Marie Norcia, chair
Alyson Russo, trustee

The meeting was called to order at 3:00
Alyson made a motion to approve minutes from our last meeting. Marie seconded. Approved.

Children’s Room News:
Upcoming programs
Toddler/Pre-K
Community Connections is back at the library and running their Kindergarten Readiness program called
Bee Ready for us on Mondays. We also had a music and movement program with Deb Hudgins this
month.

Passive Programming
1. We continue to have several drop-in activities in the Children’s Department
for our patrons to enjoy.
2. We have Grab and Go giveaways each month for our patrons. This month we gave
away “Rainbow Cloud” kits.
3. We celebrated March Madness with “Mythical Monster Mayhem.” Each week
patrons of all ages could vote on which mythical creatures made it to the next
bracket. The winner was the Phoenix.

Grades K-10 Programming
We send out monthly We Read It newsletters for all ages.

In April we are having Reggie and his handler David come back for our Paws and Pages read to a dog
program.

Old Sturbridge Village is coming to do a program for us in honor of the 250 th anniversary of the United
States. Registration is required for this program as there are limited supplies.

Diane Johnson is hosting a crazy hat craft for us on April 22 nd .

A Winnie the Pooh Party is scheduled for April 23 rd to celebrate the 100 th anniversary of the first publication
of Winnie the Pooh. There will be games, crafts, and lots of fun!

We are preparing for our Summer Reading Program. All programs have been confirmed and a flyer has
been made. We are working on advertisements and decorations.

Weeding/purchasing new materials
Katie is adding new materials to the collection and looking out for any materials that are returned in poor
condition to either delete or replace.

Continuing Education
Katie attended Community Connections Advisory Meeting on April 6 th over zoom.
Katie is starting a new series of course called Youth Services Learning Pathway which consists of 6 courses
overall. She has completed the first one entitled Youth Development and Behavior.

Director’s Report:
 “Pause” meditation program with Wendy O’Leary continues to be held on Tuesday
mornings in person and via Zoom.
 “Coffee Chat” held on Monday mornings at the library with attendance of @12 to 20
participants each week. Mary Baker-Wood helped facilitate the conversation.
 D. Farmosa delivered items to homes of patrons unable to visit library.
 Learn to crochet series for teens and adults held on Tuesdays.
 Adult knitting group held on Wednesday afternoons.
 Shining Stars dancers met at 5:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
 D. Farmosa visited Lincoln Hill Manor on Wednesday, March 18 th .
 Diane Johnson led a craft program decorating frames on Thursday, March 19 th .
 A program on cemeteries and gravestone symbols held on Monday, March 23 rd .
 D. Johnson led a craft program creating succulent wreaths on Thursday, April 2 nd .
 C. Donahue presented 2027 budget to Finance Committee and Select Board on Tuesday,
March 24 th .
 Jon Stehr is installing new flooring in public bathrooms.
