Minutes of the Richard Sugden Library Trustees Meeting

March 10, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 3:00

Alyson made a motion to approve minutes from our last meeting.  Marie seconded.  Approved.

 

Children’s Room News:

Upcoming programs

Toddler/Pre-K

Community Connections continues to provide us with monthly toddler and pre-K programming that has been well attended.

DPHS continues to offer a monthly story hour called Crafting Through Stories where they provide several crafts and a story for the community.

 Passive Programming

  1. 1. We have increased our drop-in activities in the Children’s Department including a

new castle, garage, scavenger hunts, and manipulative toys.

  1. We have Grab and Go giveaways each month for our patrons.

 Grades K-10 Programming

I am sending out monthly We Read It newsletters for all ages.

Adult/Teen knitting and crochet groups have been well attended.

Community Gaming Coalition is part of our monthly programming and has increased attendance each month.  We are communicating with them about a week of programming that they will be providing in the summer.

In February we offered crayon resist watercolor, hearts using watercolor and pastels, paper heart wreaths and garlands, Paws and Pages with Reggie, and tissue paper flowers.

Dungeons and Dragons was snowed out in February.  We will have two sessions in March run by a local teen.

Weeding/purchasing new materials

I am adding new materials to the collection and weeding any non-circulating or damaged materials.

We installed new shelf backers in the Children’s department.

Director’s Report:

  • “Pause” meditation program with Wendy O’Leary continues to be held on Tuesday mornings in person and via Zoom.
  • “Coffee Chat” held on Monday mornings at the library with attendance of @12 to 20 participants each week. Mary Baker-Wood helped facilitate the conversation.
  • Farmosa delivered items to homes of patrons unable to visit library.
  • Learn to crochet series for teens and adults held on Tuesdays.
  • Adult knitting group is held on Wednesday afternoons.
  • Shining Stars dancers met at 5:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Ghosts of New England program was held on Monday, February 2nd.
  • Farmosa visited Lincoln Hill Manor on Wednesday, February 11th.
  • Doodling to live music was held on Thursday, February 12th.
  • Blind Date with a Book launched on Saturday, February 14th. Local business, Schaefer & Charm, wrapped and decorated the books selected by our staff. They also donated a raffle basket to the library.
  • Donahue attended Zoom meeting of CMLA on Thursday, February 19th.
  • Donahue attended Zoom Users Council Zoom meeting on Tuesday, February 24th.
  • Donahue attended directors meeting at Charlton Library on Thursday, February 26th.
  • The library has a rack of costumes to give away donated by Laurie Gosselin.
  • Donahue attended department head meeting on Tuesday, February 3rd.
  • Donahue met with town administrator to discuss capital requests.
  • Donahue presented 2027 capital requests to Finance Committee on Thursday, February 12th.
  • Elevator serviced and inspected during the month.
  • Library closed on Saturday, February 7th and Monday, February 23rd due to weather.
  • On March 9th, Val Morin presented “World Marathoner”. She shared pictures and stories from her marathon adventures across seven continents.
